B-Scan Ophthalmic Ultrasound

At First Eye Care we provide our patients with the B-Scan ophthalmic ultrasound eye test. This ultrasound eye exam is available to residents of Southwest Dallas at our optometry clinic.

B-scan testing requires contact with the eye or eyelids. If necessary, eyedrops that numb the cornea for a few minutes can be used during the procedure. We use B-scan testing for several reasons, most commonly for patients with cataracts and possible retinal detachments.

B-scan ophthalmic ultrasound may be indicated in any of the following clinical situations

  1. cataract
  2. corneal opacity
  3. diabetic retinopathy
  4. optic nerve disease
  5. posterior ocular inflammation
  6. vitreous degeneration or detachment
  7. retinal detachment
  8. neoplasm of the eye
  9. significant injury to the eye
